The ABC of Family Research & Genealogy

On Saturday 4 November, members of the Western Family History Association provided free family history and genealogy advice for members of the public starting out or struggling with their research.

At midday, WFHA committee members Paul Greaney and Pat Finn gave an illustrated talk outlining the various sources available to those embarking on family history research, and provided advice on how to progress genealogical research through census, civil, church and land records, as well as how to record and present findings. The talk was aimed towards beginners and intermediate researchers.

Then, at 2pm, members of the public were invited to bring their genealogical research and queries to experienced WFHA members, who offered free advice on sources and strategies for Irish family history research. A huge growth in the availability of online material has revolutionised this area in recent years, meaning it has never been easier to start tracing your ancestors.

Both events were fully subscribed, and it is hoped to hold further similar events in the near future.

The slides can be viewed below, or at this link.
