The Sinking of the RMS Lusitania – Grief for a Galway FamilySlider2

Our January meeting took place on Wednesday 21st January 2015 in Lackagh Parish Centre at 8:15pm.

The speaker on the night was Michael Martin, Public Relations Officer of the WFHA. Michael delivered a talk entitled The Sinking of the RMS Lusitania – Grief for a Galway Family.

This year is the centenary of the sinking of the RMS Lusitania off the Old Head of Kinsale on 7 May 1915. A nineteen year old girl from County Galway was one of the victims. Who was she and how did it happen that she was among the 1,198 people to lose their lives when the ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat?

Together with his cousin Jim Farrell, Michael has prepared an extensive outline of the story of Annie Kelly, which can be viewed here.
