Christy Kelly of Dangan Heights was the guest speaker at our November meeting. His talk was intended to assist the audience to gain a better understanding with regards to reading and using maps as they endeavour to carry out research in furthering their desire for knowledge of their past family history and genealogy.
The talk showed how one can identify the various characteristics used in the publishing of Ordnance Survey mapping, and also provided information on various online mapping resources.
Rarely seen large scale maps from the 19th/20th Century were displayed as part of the talk, including a copy of the map used for the acquisition of land for the former Galway-Clifden railway near Bushypark and Dangan in Galway.
