Our November meeting will take place on November 11th at 8pm in Lackagh Parish Centre.
Our guest speaker will be Frances Kelly-Madden on the topic “The Maddens of Derrydonnell”. Frances Kelly-Madden lives in Corofin, Co. Galway. She has had a keen interest in family history for many years and is particularly interested in researching the lives of people who have emigrated and settled elsewhere. She has a B.A. degree in Archaeology and English from NUI Galway and a Diploma in Family History from Independent Colleges Dublin.
The title of her talk is The Maddens: a family journey from Derrydonnell to Louisville, Kentucky. This is a story of the Madden family who like many families were split up by emigration. The research on the family tells us of their new life in America and of trials and tribulations they encountered in a new land. Various sources were consulted and proof of identification of the link to Thomas Madden of Derrydonnell was found in several records.
The library will be open from 7:30pm on the evening for members who wish to borrow and/or return books.
